Wow! It's been a long time since I've written anything in this thing. Almost didn't remember my password. How crappy is that?! Rhetorical question.
Anyway, a while ago I was sitting, watching television with my god daughter and I realized something as she sat there. I realized that she's growing up. She's going to be four years old next month. How the frack did that happen? Where did four years go? She looked so grown up. She's coming into her own being. She knows what she wants, how she wants them and she's not afraid to let people know her thoughts, no matter how unintelligible they are to the rest of the world. All of a sudden, she became a person, not a child. She sat there, rubbing her eyes because she was sleepy but what was on television must have been interesting and so she wanted to watch. Things that grown up's do, this little person was doing, because she deemed it important enough to herself to watch. Although she still needs guidance in growing up, she doesn't need guidance in herself. She's aware. She's conscious of the world. At what point in our lives did we become aware of our surroundings? Not a rhetorical question. Such a philosophical conundrum. Where did we come from and how did we get here? In watching her that evening, watching television, I saw something go from immaterial to the material. I saw a person create itself.
