Point of Life

I’ve always been the one that said that as human beings going, we don’t need a purpose in life to live life.  I hate the holidays.  It only tests my ideology.  Do we really need a purpose?  Do we need something to strive for even though we understand that life is nothing more than interesting coincidences?

I guess it’s my fault.  My belief is simple.  I believe that life needs no ultimate desire but to simply live the life you choose.  But along the way, we are thrown because our lives intersect with others desires.  So, we either get slammed or adapt.  When we adapt our lives, those lives and the lives of those closest to us change.  So, life is a matter of adaptation.

On the other hand.  If we don’t adapt, we become a species of stagnation.  If we are unable to adapt to our surroundings, we simply starve and die.  Not really a life, just an existence.

So, ultimately, we are a species of adaptation and stagnation.  We either push forward or die.

All a purpose does to lend to our existence, our lives, is that it focuses our attention on a single thing; An IT.  It’s not always tangible and not always realistic, but it pushes us towards that single IT.

I like to think that we are not a species designed towards a single thing, but to universal accomplishments.  I believe that our lives are designed the way they are because the intersections we come across actually teach us something about the world around us and about ourselves.  We adapt to proceed to the next level.  If we can’t accept that change, we simply die and vanish.

But the holidays come along and throw a curve that I simply can’t handle.  I start seeing what other people have and wish that my life mirrored theirs.  I start thinking that life requires a purpose and that purpose was meant for everyone, including me.  So, what do I do?  I really do hate the holidays!
