It turns out that I've been looking into purchasing a handgun. Nothing extravagant, but I've been looking at a Sig Siguer P220 (.451). Anyway, it's kind of heavy (heavier than the Smith & Wesson). Anyway, stopping power and less tendency to over penetrate are two key features I'm looking at. Anyway, I came across the Louisiana Bill 199 that gives students the right to carry weapons on campus, and every Redneck is loving it. They say that it's for defense against Virginia Tech happening all over again.
It's possible that this bill will help, in a way, but there's a bigger chance that the bill will open the flood gates to a more pressing issue. Attackers (be they Al-Qaida or crazy Asian) are after one thing and one thing alone: Fear. The moment that we arm ourselves in defense of them, they've won. At home and in your car is one thing. On school property, and private property is a different story. The problem then isn't about protecting yourself, but about how the school should be protecting you even more. If your institution is not giving you the kind of protection you deserve, then there's something wrong there. At your home or in your car, you are giving the right to protect your property against violators. Wouldn't you think that college campuses would think the same way about their property? If they don't, then their bullshit about the student coming first is nothing but bullshit!
America, come to your senses! Handguns do not belong on college campuses, but in the hands of the officers PAID to protect you. Putting firearms in the hands of the civilian population of an institution is the worst thing possible.
LOUISIANA........GOOD LUCK!
