QUIS LEGET HAEC

Thursday

The local APWU

So, in case you didn't know, I've been working for the United States Postal Service for three years and seven months.  In those three years and seven months, I've accumulated experience in several areas.  At the time, it sucked putting in ten to twelve hour days but we did it because we were told to show up and work and one day we'd be career employees.  Then the processing plant in downtown HTown closed and we were moved to another processing plant. There, we were told that we had lost our senority to a bunch of newbies, people who had no more than a year and a half of experience, and only in one area.  Again, we were under the impression that the Union would stand up for us because it's what the Union is there for: for the hard working employees who have acquired enough experience to be able to contribute and make a difference in the company.  But no. The local APWU has lost its integrity.  Not only does the Union not stand for the employees but it's using our positions as pawn pieces for re-election.

There are three groups of employees that are at this one processing plant, two of which have more than three years of experience each, and the Union wants to convert the one year people first.  In other words, the Union, the APWU, is delaying experienced employees conversion to prove a point: that they have the power.

Last I checked, my checks are stamped USPS, not APWU.

An entity that serves its own means is not an entity for the employees any longer, and the more it says it is, the more hypocritical it sounds. I feel sorry for the steward who believes they are doing the right thing only to realize that they were guilty of moral turpitude.

To be honest, I don't think I'm going to keep working for the Postal Service. If one more of my Managers tells me that there are plenty of people without college degrees out there waiting to have my job, I'll probably just scream... And hand over my badge.
