Mr. Ted Poe just does not seem to understand the concept of metaphors when it comes to Presidente Calderon. I hate to think that after his years at his prestigious Alma Mater, Abilene Christian University, he would not have once come across the definition.
Here, let me give you the definition:
"A figure of speech in which a term or phrase is applied to something to which it is not literally applicable in order to suggest a resemblance."
There is another word I would like to show you: Nationalism. Its definition states,"devotion and loyalty to one's own nation; patriotism."
It seems that the only people that can legally have patriotism are Americans. If another nation experiences this sentiment, people like Ted Poe discredit them as calling for a Communist or Socialist State, and from there, they would gather support from those individuals who fear these concepts. I remember another leader who gathered support through fear of another race: Adolph Hitler.
With Nationalism comes the possibility of corruption, but if we accept that, then we also have to conclude that the United States can suffer the same fate since Nationalism (Patriotism) is a dominant theme in American lives. Think of the American flag flying high, and think of tear filled eyes as Americans sing along to "The Star Spangled Banner". It is also this Nationalism that led rich Americans to pour out their French wine when France did not support the United States during the invasion of Iraq. How much more childish could Americans be! That kind of act reminds me of that little boy who picked up his ball and went home because he was not picked for a team.
Below, we find an excerpt of Ted Poe's speech on September 5th, but first you will find an excerpt of Rupert Brooke's "The Soldier". If Calderon is trying to "stealthily invade" the United States, Mr. Poe would also believe that the descendants of Brits buried in cemeteries were trying the same thing. Imagine what would happen if you grouped the entire population of dead Brits into one cemetery, OH MY GOD!!! We'd have another revolution on our hands. British heads under an English Sky. Ted Poe would more than likely, wall up the cemeteries and call anyone who walked in a Revolutionist who was trying to take over the United States.
The Soldier
Rupert Brooke
If I should die, think only this of me:
That there's some corner of a foreign field
That is for ever England.
There shall be
In that rich earth a richer dust concealed;
A dust whom England bore, shaped, made aware,
Gave, once, her flowers to love, her ways to roam,
A body of England's, breathing English air,
Washed by the rivers, blest by suns of home.
And think, this heart, all evil shed away,
A pulse in the eternal mind, no less
Gives somewhere back the thoughts by England given;
Her lights and sounds; dreams happy as her day;
And laughter, learnt of friends; and gentleness,
In hearts at peace, under an English heaven.

CALDERON'S COLONY
Washington, Sep 5 - Mr. Speaker, ``Wherever there is a Mexican, there is Mexico. Mexico does not end at our borders.'' To the roar of a standing ovation, the arrogant saber-rattling words are from Mexico's President Calderon in his first state of the union message.
It seems clear to me that these aggressive words are a renewed call by Mexico to colonize the United States. Does El Presidente Calderon claim that the southwest United States is really part of Mexico since many illegals have colonized that area? Sounds like it to me.
Is Leader Calderon calling for a continued stealth invasion into the United States by its citizens? Sounds like it to me.
Does clever calculating Calderon want the United States to become a union with Mexico? Time will tell.
Meanwhile, I wonder if anyone in charge of protecting our homeland is aware of and disturbed by these indignant words. In the history of nations, it appears that when one country invades, colonizes, infiltrates or occupies another without permission, the invaded country either resists invasion at the border or just loses its existence. Time will tell what the United States will do. And that's just the way it is.
Now, Mr. Poe, if you believe that every Mexican is trying to take America away from Americans, in the words of our favorite country singer George Strait, "I've got some ocean front property in Arizona. From my front porch you can see the sea". But if you didn't rush out to buy some of that Arizona property, then I suspect that you are not as dumb as you lead us to believe, and your intentions towards the people of Mexico (and those with a cultural connection to Mexico) is more sinister than you lead us to believe.
